Set amidst the Kannan Devan hills, Munnar a small hill station located on the eastern part of the state of Kerala is a major travel destination of South India. Placed at an altitude of 1524 m above sea level, it lies 130 kms east of Kochi and borders the state of Tamilnadu. Rajamala: A heritage site, it is the home to the rare Nilgiri tahr. The endangered mountain goat species are slowly and steadily on the verge of extinction and a few of them are only found in this locality. Reduced to small herds found exclusively in the Eravikulam-Rajamala region, today the population has gone down to 1317 from much more.
